As part of our ‘Unsinkable’ topic we were asked the question ‘How did the Titanic actually move?’
We created our own simple propeller boats using corrugated plastic and elastic bands. We discussed how winding a ‘propeller’ around the elastic band allowed for potential energy to be stored. When we let go of the elastic band the energy was also released allowing our ‘boats’ to move!
We then explored how the number of turns of elastic might effect the distance the ‘boats’ might travel.
We had great fun - even if our classroom did end up a little bit wet 😳
