Dancing Raisins ~ exploring density.

26th Mar 2019

As part of our World Around Us topic we have been learning about the Titanic. This led us to question why objects can float in water. Today we explored the term density.

We discovered that when we put raisins into still water they sank as the raisin was more dense than the water. In fizzy water the raisin sank but carbon dioxide bubbles attached themselves to the raisin and these air bubbles made the raisin less dense than water and so the raisin floated. When the bubbles burst the raisin sank again.
