P6 Viking Trip to Navan Fort

15th May 2026

P6 had a fantastic day at Navan Fort for our Viking-themed topic trip.

The children met a Norse guide—who politely corrected us that “Viking” refers to the act of raiding! He brought history to life by putting some pupils to the test in mock battle, while others experienced what it was like to be “traded” in the Viking era.

We explored Viking runes and used them to design and create our own bookmarks. Pupils also stepped into the role of medieval monks, trying their hand at writing with a quill and manuscript just as they would have in a monastery.

To round off the day, we had the chance to try on authentic-style Viking clothing, jewellery, and armour.

It was an engaging, hands-on experience that really brought our topic to life and sparked lots of excitement back in the classroom.

A huge thank you to the staff at Navan Fort for making today so memorable.
