Titanic adventures
We have completed our topic “Unsinkable” with a STEM investigation and a final Art activity.
We explored the effects of cold water on our bodies, reflecting on the experience of those unfortunate passengers who found themselves in the icy waters.
We completed a range of tasks such as:
- Tying a shoe lace.
- Writing a simple sentence.
- Screwing a nut and bolt together.
- Recording a pulse.
- Building a tower of cubes.
We then plunged our hands into the icy waters and recorded the results. Even after only a short time being exposed to the freezing conditions, we were able to see how the cold affected our fine motor skills, heart rate and also our ability to complete simple tasks efficiently.
Today we used clay to replicate some of the artefacts recovered from the Titanic, such as plates, jugs, cups and vases or pocket watches and other jewellery.
