Using Information & Communication Technology

Using ICT (Information and Communications Technology) describes the ability to handle and communicate information, solve problems, pose questions and be creative through the use of technology.  Through ICT in St John the Baptist Primary School, pupils have opportunities to transfer their knowledge, understanding and skills in a variety of meaningful contexts across the curriculum. This includes:

·       collaborating inside and outside the classroom;

·       sharing and exchanging work; and

·       exhibiting and showcasing their learning.

We use the Levels of Progression (skills based competencies) based on the 5 E's to assess our pupils' UICT skills. The 5 E's are, Explore, Express, Exchange, Evaluate and ExhibitExplore and Express form the core of most activities that our pupils are involved in. Evaluate requires them to consider:

  • what they have done; and
  • how they have done it.

Exchange involves working collaboratively online and Exhibit involves pupils showcasing their work digitally.
